I am really attracted to aprons. Are you? I don’t wear them often, I confess.
I just never developed the habit. I wore them at my Granny’s house when I was a girl.
My Mom didn’t cook much and we never had any aprons that I can remember.
I inherited a couple ….
The one on the left has kittens wearing aprons and was my MIL’s….she’s in her 70’s
The one in the center was embroidered by my MIL’s father for her when she was born in the 30’s.
It’s very faded and frayed. It was just done on muslin but the embroidery is fine and beautiful.
Her Dad was a fireman and it was common in those days before TV, computers, phones, etc
for firemen to knit or do some kind of handwork during the long hours at the station.
It hadn’t occurred to anyone to install a gym so they could work out I guess!
Remember all the beautiful scrimshaw and other creations done by sailors on long sea voyages?
How about the beautiful fisherman knit sweaters done by Irish and Scotsmen?
Imagine today the derision a man would get for doing that…..it’s a shame.
We are an odd people sometimes aren’t we?
Deciding that certain things are only for men and other things are only for women?
I saw this in Flea Market Style AFTER I made this apron and realized I had
done my copycat already….thank goodness…one less bit of pressure!
Here’s my Flea Market Apron…what do you think?
I used the top of an old pair of jeans, attached a skirt, added embellishments and
I’m ready to go Junkin’
Of course, you could wear it for cooking too!
Choose the fabric for the skirt and narrow hem the sides. I left the top and bottom raw.
Attach your skirt to the jeans.
Double pocket makes more room to store stuff!
Hook your keys to the loop
I’m ready to go Junkin….how about you?

This is just too cute! If I ever get my sewing machine out again, I’m making one! It’s precious! Thank you for sharing at Potpourri Friday! Your participation is always appreciated!
It is adorable. Love the idea of using the blue jeans!!! Thanx for sharing that idea. Tiffany
Hop on over to my blog palace and hang out with “royalty” LOL Tiff
Adorable! I want to make one, too!!
Wow I love it. I think I would like to make something similar for yardsaling. Also for holding a yardsale instead of having to wear an ugly fanny pack to keep track of the $$. Great idea.
So cute!! I love your version 🙂
Great story about your old aprons and the darling one you made! I need to do this!
I hear you can’t go to the southern bloggers conference I. October. Shirley told me you had a ticket. I’ll buy yours! How much is it? Let’s make it happen!
Thanks,
Barbara
This is too cute!!
I use a denim hunter’s vest, the kind with all the pockets.
I carry a measuring tape, pen and notebook with room, pending craft, needs and wants measurements and info. I also carry a card holder with paint and fabric swatches, for color comparison. Some of those blues can be pretty hard to mix n match… 🙂
This is wonderful, functional and looks oh so comfy! Thank you for sharing you take on this neat apron.
SO funny…I too love aprons but like you, very seldon wear one. Course, I would probably come closer to wearing if I cooked! LOL….I love the flea market one but you now I have even seen skirts done like that and I totally love it. Would come closer to wearing the skirt! Great job.
